This archive is comprised of the papers of the poet, publisher, and book designer Jonathan Greene. The editor and publisher of Gnomon Press, from 1965 to the present Greene has published works by poets, writers, and artists including Robert Duncan, Cid Corman, William Bronk, Lorine Niedecker, Jonathan Williams, Ralph Eugene Meatyard, Wendell Berry, James Still, Gurney Norman, Harlan Hubbard, Guy Davenport, and many others. As a designer, he has created books for such presses as Alfred A. Knopf, University of North Carolina Press, The Ecco Press, Graywolf, Copper Canyon, The Jargon Society, Duke University Press, New Directions, Anvil Press, Rizzoli, Ten Speed Press, The University Press of Kentucky, Broadstone Books, North Atlantic Books, Pressed Wafer, and Green Shade. He has been called by the Georgia Review, "one of the country's preeminent book designers,” and by James Laughlin, "one of our unsung culture heroes."
